About Us

For years, raising and training Alaskan Klee Kai has been an incredibly enriching experience that I could never have foreseen.

I have been fortunate to have placed puppies in the homes of some exceptional individuals and have built friendships with so many families that have our puppies.. Our puppies have had a positive impact on many people's lives, saving them from death, enhancing their quality of life, and providing friendship to those in need. This divine calling is one that I take very seriously.

About Me

As the eldest of four children and the only female in the house, I assumed a motherly role by the age of 12. I loved babysitting and knew that I wanted a family of my own one day.

At 18, I was told that I may not be able to have children due to some reproductive issues. Devastated, I turned to dogs for comfort. My first dog, Sashie, a Siberian Husky/wolf mix, melted my heart with her intelligence and energy. Eventually, we started breeding large Wolf Hybrids and found joy in the companionship of our beloved dogs.

However, my world changed when I found out I was pregnant. The joy quickly turned into fear and anxiety when the doctor informed me that the fetus was not viable and wanted to schedule a procedure (an abortion without calling it an abortion). Refusing to accept this, I sought a second opinion, and Brayden, the supposed unviable fetus, is now a thriving 24-year-old.

After becoming a mother, my dogs remained a significant part of my life, but due to my high-risk pregnancies and subsequent bed rest, they could no longer share my bed or receive the exercise they needed.

In 2001, I was introduced to the Alaskan Klee Kai, a breed that resembled huskies but in a smaller, more manageable size. I instantly became captivated and joined a waitlist. In August 2003, I brought Kika home.

My passion for improving the Alaskan Klee Kai breed began when I attended a dog show with Kika's breeder, Andrea Hays. It was there that I realized the great potential and need for improvement in the breed, particularly in socialization, temperament, structure, and overall consistency in appearance.   Kika’s exceptional qualities ignited a desire to contribute to the breed's growth and to share these wonderful dogs with others. Over the years, my connection to these animals has deepened, shaping my approach to breeding and raising them. I have experienced the joy of seeing puppies I raised become cherished family members in homes across the country, and even internationally.

This journey has not been without its challenges. The responsibility of ensuring the health and well-being of each litter, coupled with the commitment to maintaining the genetic integrity of the breed, has been a substantial but rewarding endeavor. It's a process that involves continuous learning, adaptation, and above all, a profound respect for the breed and its future.

My Values

The core of my breeding philosophy is rooted in respect—respect for the breed and respect for the dogs that pass through my home. I am committed to:

Health

Ensuring each breeding pair is genetically tested to minimize health risks and promote longevity.

Well-being

Providing a loving and nurturing environment for every puppy, from birth until they leave for their forever homes.

Ethics

Upholding the highest ethical standards in breeding practices, which includes rigorous adherence to the breed standards set by the Alaskan Klee Kai Association of America.

Education

Prioritizing education about the Alaskan Klee Kai breed, their characteristics and requirements is essential. This ensures compatibility between dogs and owners, and manages expectations for a harmonious relationship.

I believe that breeding is not just about creating dogs; it's about creating healthy, happy family members who will bring joy and companionship to their owners.

Understanding that each dog breed possesses distinct characteristics and temperaments, and that there is no one universally effective approach to dog training, the Alaskan Klee Kai has made significant progress over the past two decades, yet more work remains. As a breeder with a profound understanding and passion for this unique breed, I have played a significant role in its development and popularity. However, as a breeder, my direct involvement with each puppy born at Kika's Klee Kai is limited to the first eight weeks. I sought a way to extend my contribution beyond the departure of the puppies from our home. Thus, I focused on creating the world's first specialized online education and training program specifically tailored to Alaskan Klee Kai and their owners, called Klee Kai Unleashed.

Our Mission

To transform the lives of Alaskan Klee Kai owners and their pets through specialized, breed-specific education and training. With over 20 years of focused experience in breeding, raising, and training, we are dedicated to enhancing the unique traits of each Alaskan Klee Kai. Our goal is to witness increased confidence, socialization, and obedience within the Alaskan Klee Kai community. Join us in creating a world where every Alaskan Klee Kai thrives as a well-adjusted, canine companion, and every owner excels in fostering a strong bond, prevents separation anxiety and has a deep understanding of their Klee Kai—one paw at a time.
